Writing: This comic is unique in the fact that it has 5 short comics (around 8 pages apiece) under one cover.  Each story is written and drawn by someone different and in general all the stories have completely different story lines. ( As you can tell from the "Description of Book" section above.

I'm not going to review every story as then the review would be as long as the comic itself, but I will give what I considered to be the highlights and lowlights of the book.

First, I really enjoyed 4 out of the 5 stories in the book but I'd have to say that what really made me like it as a whole was the diversity of the stories. This could have been a collection of 5 action stories but Lynx Studio showed a willingness to give us something a little bit different. It gave us an interesting action story (ChiSai) to start out the book, and ended with two stories that had real emotions to them ("Discount Stories" and "Frail"). These two really provided emotional stories that I think are lacking in mainstream comics today.

I didn't really enjoy "The Adventures of the Molly-Be-Damned" offering in this issue, as it seemed to want to go to fast.  I believe it went through three different time frames and the story is only eight pages long! I think it would have been better served to have stretched out each time slice into their own issues.  My only other negative comment on the book was the fact that two of the 5 stories pretty much ended exactly the same. (minor point though)

Artwork: I didn't like the artwork as much as the story telling.  I liked the artwork in "Lineage" and "The Adventures of the Molly-Be-Damned" the most.  I kind of thought that the artwork in ChiSai reminded me of the 1980's Ah-ha video for "Take on Me" (wonder how many will get this reference) just darker.

Something about the face of the main character in "Discount Stories" was a bit disturbing to me, but the story made up for it.

Overall: 4 stars. I have the second issue of Myriad in hand and its unfortunate that I have others to read before I get back to this title. I can't wait to see where some of these story lines go. I just hope that the same breadth of genres will continue to be present under the title of Myriad for many issue to come.

Ron Miller

Writing: I enjoyed most of the stories in this issue. Some I did feel didn't give me enough, but I'm expecting subsequent issues to fill those in for me. I did really enjoy Discount Stores, I loved the old man in that story.

Artwork: The art was Ok. I had some issues with the dark quality if some of the stories but beyond that there were no real negative aspects to the art.

Overall: 3 stars. This was a good teaser for me. I thought it woiuld have been stronger if there were fewer- longer stories, but that was my biggest complaint.

Stefan Haas

Writing: While most of the stories did a good job fitting a coherent story unit into the short space allocated, I didn't really feel satisfied by any of the stories.  It was like eating a plate of appetizers for dinner.

Artwork: Most of the art was okay. Nothing really stood out to me. I didn't particularly like the dark shading style in Chi Sai. I understand why Ron found the greeter in "Discount Stories" disturbing, but I thought that was intentional.

Overall: 3 stars. I liked this book, but I think I'd like it better if I saved up a few issues to read at the same time.
