Review: I long ago grew to cringe at the notion of an anthology that showcased up and coming works or talent for a publishing label. More often than not, these anthologies offer a few shiny baubles alongside very badly edited stories, exchanging advertising flash for any sort of representative sampling of the full works. Fortunately, Safe Words may well serve to eliminate that bias for me. Rather than chopping down existing works, here are unique stories presented by artists and writers who have full-length contributions available through Bad Place Productions. And yes, these stories sit well alongside their siblings. Though there is no central theme here, a sense of the otherworldly weaves through this book and offers a thread for the reader to follow.
This may be a great starting point for those looking to see what Bad Place has on tap but, rest assured, any reader will find that they are more interested in tracking down the full comics by the time they go to set this one down.
