Year: 2008 Writer: Dave Milloway & Matt Wood Artist: Stephanie Freese Publisher: Self-Published Website: http://www.likelystories.com Genre: Humor / Mystery Description of book: It all seemed so simple when Dirk Dada took the case, an easy paycheck for tracking down a missing water fowl, gone AWOL after a gunshot at a swanky soiree in Picabia Heights. But things got complicated when a famous party guest turned up dead under a mysterious pile of feathers in a talking mime's ballroom. Nothing's ever simple in Dadaville. The mystery continues in Volume 2 of the Dada Detective: The Mime Who Talked Too Much! Price: $9.97
Review: Where the first volume of "Dada Detective" left me more than a little perplexed, this one seemed to grow legs for me. While both volumes are very stylistic visually, this one managed to have the Noir-ish vibe mesh with both the writing and its conjoined twin, humor.
And while it managed to be an incredibly entertaining read, there was also a distinctly suspenseful vibe to the story as well, which impressed me as I don't know how you can both laugh at something and feel a sense of danger from it as well.
Fans of the old black & white mystery films would do well to check this one out - particularly if you have a taste for a good story that pokes fun at its inspiration.
Overall: 5 stars.
