Review: This has been an interesting series thus far in that it reveals its setting gradually while giving us characters up front. By issue 3, the reader is just now starting to understand the significance of what happens to these 13 year olds and how it impacts their futures.
I was pleased to see that this issue resolves a long-standing issue I've had with this comic, namely that the dialogue could at times be too cluttered in one panel to figure out the order in which the characters spoke to one another. Whether by accident or design, things were a bit more spread out in this issue, which made for a much easier read. The ending of this issue left me puzzled. Though I've enjoyed this concept and these characters (or at least what I've been given of them), there is a lot going on here with no obvious primary plot. At times, this has felt like a web of sub-plots that just happen to be all transpiring at the same time. That doesn't render it a bad read, but it does feel disorganized and you're never quite sure why you're being shown what you are. I suspect the coming issues will reveal the central plot. Only the failure to have one can derail this comic, which has been very unique and compelling this far out.
